Restaurant Wars - Round 2

I'm so glad to actually have a little time to write something tonight. Almost everyone in my department decided to take this week off before Labor Day weekend, so all of the work fell to the lucky few of us that were around. I've been leaving work at between 7 and 8pm, coming home to eat, and continuing to work for a few hours - no fun!

Anyway, we didn't have much going on last Saturday, so we decided to take a trip to New Haven, home of Yale University. New Haven is only about an hour from Stamford, so its an easy trip. Remembering our cheesesteak taste test in Philadelphia, we decided to continue that tradition in New Haven. New Haven has 2 rival pizza places, Sally's and Frank Pepe's. They both opened in the 1920's or 30's and still have lines out the door!

We started at Frank Pepe's - white pizza with tomatoes, garlic and mozzarella:

The pizza was really good, but we were too full to go directly to another pizza place, so we decided to walk around the University. I can't say that I was too impressed with the city of New Haven as a whole, but Yale has a nice campus with some very pretty architechture.

After our walk, we were up for our second round of pizza - this time at Sally's - plain cheese pizza.

You may notice that the sign says "Sally's Apizza." This is not a mistake. This spelling is fairly common in the area and comes from the local Italian dialect. Try saying "Apizza" in your best Italian accent and I think you'll see what I mean :)

The verdict - a tie!! I highly recommend either place. We probably should've gotten exactly the same pizza at both places to really be able to judge them. Oh well.

Now we just have to decide where to go for Restaurant Wars, Round 3!

Not sure about the haircut. I agree that it will take getting used to. He's still dashingly handsome regardless. Both pizzas looked delicious - what's not to like? Can't wait to see New England. Love, Mommie Dearest
