Jack's Sporty Spring

Spring 2015

Jack would start kindergarten in August and paranoid Mommy wanted to be sure that Jack knew as many friends as possible heading into kindergarten. That is how we ended up playing both soccer and t-ball. We had some busy Saturdays, but Jack met so many boys playing t-ball that have become some of his best friends in kindergarten, so it was definitely worth it.

Tommy was excited  for Jack to play a sport that he had played. It was so cute watching them practice together:

Here's our adorable Pirate and Daddy before his first game. I think that tiny baseball uniforms are quite possible the cutest thing ever!

Quite the wind-up in warm ups. Dad taught him to point his glove hand in the direction he wants the ball to go.

By the end of the season, he could hit it the ball regularly off the tee - sometimes it didn't go very far, but he usually made contact. Coach Jason was so calm and patient with all of them - a great coach to have for his first year!

As far as fielding, Jack could pay attention for most of the inning if he was in the infield, less if he was in the outfield. Ha! Each game was played for an hour, regardless of how many innings - usually it was 2 or 3. The coaches rotated the boys so that each one got to play in the infield for at least one inning each game. By the end of the season, they had played each position at least once. Here is Jack's turn at first base:

Despite saying that he liked baseball better because you didn't have to run as much, he continued to enjoy soccer and had a really great season. It is fun to watch these boys who have played together for several seasons learn to pass and play positions and become a real team. Jack is definitely more offensive minded and was a pretty good goal scorer this season. Sadly, with mom coaching, we don't have as many pics of this season. Luckily, Grandpa was able to make it to a game and take a few pictures:
